Last week Mrs. Furtado's 3rd graders concluded their in-depth animal science study of whales with a visit from a rather large but fascinating creature! The Audubon Society of Rhode Island provided this one-of-a-kind opportunity for our students. A 65-ft Fin Whale took up residence in the gym. Students learned what makes whales mammals and the special adaptations they make for survival. They even took a tour of the inside of the whale, exploring the 3 stomachs, rib cage and unique anatomy of their visitor! Thank you to the Audubon Society!
