Frequently Asked Questions for Prospective Families
Q: When is the deadline to apply?
A: There is no deadline to apply, but space is limited. It is recommended that you
apply during the last week of January when we begin accepting applications for
the following school year.
Q: Is there a waiting list?
A: There is a waiting list when classes reach capacity.
Q: What is the age cutoff for kindergarten?
A: Children entering kindergarten must be five years old by September 1st. There
are no exceptions to this rule.
Q: What time does school start?
A: School starts at 8:15AM.
Q: Is before and after school available?
A: Yes, both before and after school care is available daily when school is in
session. Before school care is available from 7:30AM-8:30AM and after school
care is offered from 3:00PM-5:30PM.
Q: Is there a sibling discount?
A: We do not offer a sibling discount, but financial assistance is available to those
who qualify.
Q: Does my child need to wear a uniform?
A: Students in grades K-8 wear a uniform.
Q: Can we apply to St.Luke's School even though we are not Catholic?
A: St. Luke's School is a Catholic school and our purpose is not only to educate the
minds of our students but also to guide their hearts to an understanding of
God's Holy Word. We encourage families of all faiths to apply but to also fully
understand that Religion class is a required, core subject for all students.
In addition, students are expected to participate in daily prayer and monthly
liturgies, prayer services, and all religious activities.
Q: Are parents required to volunteer?
A: Parents are not required to volunteer, but we appreciate those who can give of
their time to help when available; i.e. in the lunchroom, on the playground, in
the classroom, on a field trip, or at a school-sponsored event. For the safety of
all students, all volunteers are required to attend a Safe Environment
orientation training session as well as complete a background check through
the Office of Compliance and Safety.
Q: What high schools do students typically attend?
A: Students who apply themselves, work hard, attend school regularly, and are
responsible, respectful young people are admitted to area Catholic and private
high schools including Bishop Hendricken, LaSalle Academy, Bishop Connolly,
Bishop Stang, St. Mary Academy Bay View, St. Raphael Academy,
Bishop Feehan, Providence Country Day, Lincoln, St. Andrews and Portsmouth
Abbey. In the past several years students from St. Luke's School have been
awarded generous academic scholarships from these secondary institutions.
In addition, students who attend both public and private high schools are
well-prepared and often register for advanced level and honors courses.
Q: Do you offer bus service?
A: Bus transportation is available to students in kindergarten-grade 8 who meet
the requirements and reside in Barrington, Bristol, Warren, Riverside and East
Providence.
